5 Symptoms of Mesothelioma at the Starting Stage

Mesothelioma is a cancerous disease that gradually develops from exposure to asbestos compound. It is often hard to diagnose mesothelioma and it can sometimes take as much as fifty years to develop. Usually, symptoms do not become apparent until the disease is in its late stages while symptoms in the early stages can be easily confused with other common ailments.

Here are some mesothelioma symptoms to watch out for at its beginning stage.

Coughing up blood, persistent cough, and difficulty swallowing are some of the symptoms that indicate pleural mesothelioma. Many people dismiss these symptoms unaware of tumors forming in the lining of the lungs and the chest wall. Coughing can accompany fever, hoarseness and loss of sensing capability.

Chest Pain

About 60 percent of the diagnosed cases of pleural mesothelioma involve pain in lower back or side chest. Body aches can occur in early stages of pleural mesothelioma, which is the only form of the disease that develops in a series of stages.

Shortness of Breath

Respiratory issues, such as shortness of breath, begin to appear at this stage of the disease as small tumors sometimes begin spreading from the pleura to other parts of the chest area such as lung tissues and the diaphragm. Tumor growth can cause further difficulties in breathing.

Fatigue and Fever

Fever, fatigue, muscle weakness, and weight loss may develop at this stage. People suffering from Mesothelioma complain about being tired even after a small round of walking. These symptoms commonly continue through the fourth stage along with abdominal pain.

Sweating and Swelling

Night sweats and excessive sweating can occur as tumors spread. Other late stage symptoms include anemia, hemoptysis, and swelling in the face and arms.
